Version v2 — geoHELP mobile app (Android, it.geohelp)
The data controller is Roberto Ronco.
Address: Via Candiolo 15, 10127 Turin (TO), Italy.
Privacy contacts: email rronco23@gmail.com; certified email (PEC) r.ronco@pec.it; phone +39 371 1500701.
Data Protection Officer (DPO): not appointed. For privacy-related requests and GDPR rights, contact the controller using the details above.
After registration, geoHELP lets you send help requests by SMS with GPS location and essential data to numbers configured for the service (operations centre / volunteers). Manual requests (Help) are prepared through the phone’s Messages app (mobile network / SIM). Optional MAN DOWN may detect falls or impacts and, after a cancellable 60-second countdown, send automatic SMS: first via the user’s SIM; if sending fails, via cloud provider Twilio (sender ID geoHELP). The service does not replace official emergency numbers (e.g. 112).
geoHELP is a private application developed with the patronage of the Municipality of Sestriere, the Municipality of Cesana Torinese and Consorzio Turismo Sestriere. Patron institutions’ websites are available from the app; the app does not represent those bodies and does not replace public emergency services.
I consent to the processing of my personal data (email, first name, birth year, user phone number, optional profile fields, GPS location when the help request is sent) for the geoHELP service, as described in this notice. This consent is required to use the app.
Data processed: account (email, password); profile (name, birth year, mandatory user phone, optional gender and family phone); help request content (emergency type, notes); consent history; statistical SMS event logs (sms_events: channel, type, outcome — without message text).
“Remember me” option: if enabled, email and password may be stored encrypted on the device (EncryptedSharedPreferences) to ease sign-in; they are not shared with third parties for marketing.
Storage: data on Supabase infrastructure (EU region: Ireland), with per-user access rules (RLS) and encrypted transport (HTTPS).
SMS recipients: primary and backup service numbers, who receive the SMS content (including GPS coordinates and the user’s phone number for callback).
Maps: to show your position the app may download tiles from OpenStreetMap and, optionally, Esri (orthophoto); those providers may process technical connection data (e.g. IP address) under their own notices.
Legal basis: consent (GDPR Art. 6(1)(a)) and, where applicable, performance of the service you requested.
I consent to storing my medical data (conditions, allergies, therapies, pacemaker, notes) on the geoHELP backend, in structured form, protected by per-user security rules (RLS) and encrypted transport (HTTPS). I understand that the data may be accessed by the team operating the service for rescue, support and verification purposes, and may be included in summary form in emergency SMS messages. Access to the medical form on the device is protected by a personal PIN. I can revoke consent at any time.
Legal basis: explicit consent (GDPR Art. 9(2)(a)). Health data on the server is not end-to-end encrypted; authorised staff may access it for the purposes stated.
I consent to using the device motion sensors to detect possible falls or strong impacts and, after a 60-second countdown that I can cancel, to automatically sending emergency SMS to the configured primary and backup numbers (up to 3) with GPS position, user phone number and essential data (including a medical summary if I gave medical consent). For GPS during an alert (including when the screen is off), the app may request background / always-on location in addition to while-in-use access. I understand false alarms may occur and that automatic SMS requires the dedicated phone permission. If the SIM cannot send, the message may be sent via Twilio (USA). I can turn this feature off at any time in the app.
Legal basis: consent (GDPR Art. 6(1)(a)).
Supabase Inc. — database hosting, authentication and cloud functions (EU, Ireland), as processor under a DPA.
Twilio Inc. — SMS sending only as MAN DOWN fallback when the SIM fails (USA; possible transfers outside the EEA with the provider’s contractual safeguards, e.g. Standard Contractual Clauses).
Mobile network operators — transport of SMS sent from the user’s SIM.
Map providers (OpenStreetMap Foundation, Esri) — for map display only, under their respective notices.
Service management team — personnel authorised by the controller for administration, support and SOS number management.
Depending on features you use, the app may request these Android permissions:
You can revoke permissions in phone settings; some features may no longer work.
geoHELP is a mobile application, not a website with advertising cookies. The app does not use behavioural profiling, advertising trackers or third-party marketing analytics.
Only technical data needed to operate the service may be processed (e.g. HTTPS requests to Supabase, map tile downloads, SMS via Twilio or SIM, server sms_events logs without message content).
The service is not intended for children under 14. If you believe a minor provided data without parental consent, contact the controller for deletion.
You may exercise access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, objection, and withdraw consent by emailing rronco23@gmail.com or PEC r.ronco@pec.it. You may lodge a complaint with your supervisory authority. In the app: Consents and privacy.
If purposes or processing change materially, a new notice version (e.g. v3) will be published and renewed consent may be requested in the app. The current version is shown on this page and in the consents screen.
v2 — May 2026. Adds permissions, no marketing tracking, retention and alignment with Supabase/Twilio/MAN DOWN. Contractual details and final retention periods to be confirmed with legal counsel.
